The prestigious END OF LIFE CARE AWARD has been scooped by Clinical Nurse Manager Sinead O’Donoghue and her team in Caherass Nursing Home at the glittering Nursing Homes Ireland awards ceremony in City West Hotel, Dublin, on the 15th of November 2018.

Sinead received the End Of Life Care Award for her programme Compassionate End of Life Group (CEOL) in Mowlam Healthcare’s Caherass Nursing Home, Croom, County Limerick – a centre of excellence in end of life care.

The NHI Care Awards is the definitive celebration of excellence across the Irish nursing home sector, promotes best practice in nursing homes and pays tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to care excellence.

With the assistance of The Irish Hospice Foundation and Milford Hospice the CEOL Group developed a vision for their programme, and through consultation with all home staff they identified what practices they would like to Stop, Start, Continue and Change in the nursing home. The success of the CEOL programme in Caherass Nursing Home has been down to dedication and buy-in from every member of the CEOL group, and supporting staff in developing their competencies in end of life care. United as one team they have taken responsibility for driving change and reinforcing good practice in the home. Their commitment and passion for improving care and end of life care for our residents has been a source of inspiration for everyone at Caherass and Mowlam Healthcare.

Clinical Nurse Manager Sinead O Donoghue:
“I am so delighted to receive this award for all the team at Caherass Nursing Home. It is a huge responsibility to provide good end-of-life care. It is so important that the resident has control over their end of life care“

Mary Carey – Director of Nursing Caherass Nursing Home:
“We are so proud of what the team in Caherass Nursing Home has achieved. The CEOL Group was a result of our review to improve end of life care. Sinead embraced the opportunity fully, with my absolute support. The team identified themselves and the CEOL Group was born

CEO of Mowlam Healthcare Pat Shanahan:
“I would like to congratulate Sinead and the team in Caherass Nursing Home who developed the CEOL programme. I would also like to thank the all the staff in Caherass who volunteered for this very special initiative. Following this successful experience we are rolling out this CEOL programme in many of our nursing homes
